Injured Moncada still not ready to rejoin starting lineup
Since joining the White Sox's starting lineup in July of 2017, Yoan Moncada has struggled to stay healthy.
A string of hamstring injuries sapped much of his power and speed, and the third baseman had a difficult time in 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19.
Moncada missed the first month of the current season with a right oblique strain, and he was held out of the lineup Tuesday night in Toronto with a nagging quad injury.
The switch-hitter, who is batting a lethargic .133/.175/.250 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI over 15 games this season, hasn't been in the starting lineup since last Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Moncada is hoping to be back on the field later this week, either in Toronto or Tampa Bay.
Eloy update:
According to SouthSideSox.com, injured White Sox left fielder Eloy Jimenez took batting practice Tuesday and is expected to be back in Class AAA Charlotte's lineup Wednesday at designated hitter.
Jimenez, who tore a tendon in his right hamstring on April 23 and had surgery four days later, is on a rehab assignment with Charlotte.
Is his first game at Triple-A Saturday, Jimenez aggravated the injury and made an early exit.
Schedule switch:
The White Sox were originally slated to play a split doubleheader against the Royals in Kansas City on Aug. 10, with Game 1 starting at 1:10 p.m. followed by a night game.
The Sox and Royals will now play a single-admission doubleheader on Aug. 9. Game 1 starts at 3:10 p.m.
