Libertyville DAR Chapter packs meals for Ukraine

In April and May, members and friends from the Libertyville-based Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville.

The volunteers packed Manna Pack Rice Meals, which is a source of protein, carbohydrates and key nutrients that is acceptable worldwide.

FMSC is a nonprofit Christian organization whose meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs to reduce problems with malnutrition.

There are eight permanent sites in Arizona, Illinois, Minnesota and Texas, along with hundreds of mobile packing events nationwide. Each meal packed costs less than 25 cents. The meals are donated to partners around the world who distribute them every day in schools, orphanages, feeding programs and clinics.

The ABC Chapter members, Children of the American Revolution members and friends have been volunteering for years at FMSC in Libertyville. FMSC relies solely on volunteers to pack, label and box these meals.

The meals that the volunteers packed, were sent to Poland (Mission Eurasia) to help refugees from Ukraine.

The Ansel Brainerd Chapter, NSDAR, is celebrating its 45th year. The chapter was organized in September 1977 in Libertyville by 17 members. The chapter has now grown to include more than 175 members.

In 2021, the ABC chapter members logged 7,705 volunteer hours in the communities in which they work and live.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States' efforts toward independence.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
