For the first time, the annual Lake County Fire Safety Expo at Gurnee Mills mall will include a mobile exhibit about Sept. 11.
Called "Tunnel to Towers," the exhibit features artifacts from the World Trade Center and guided tours from Fire Department of New York firefighters who responded to ground zero. An opening ceremony for the exhibit is at 10 a.m. Saturday. It will include an honor guard, bagpipers and hundreds of veterans, firefighters and police officers, according to a news release. The mobile exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Other events at the safety expo, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, include a demonstration from police dogs and the Waukegan Fire Bomb Squad. The expo will be held in Parking Lot E near Value City Furniture at Gurnee Mills.
