Mount Prospect mayor tabs former trustee Zadel to fill vacancy
Mayor Paul Hoefert announced he will appoint former veteran Trustee Michael Zadel to fill the seat left vacant by Trustee Peggy Pissarreck.
The village board will vote on the appointment at its June 7 meeting.
Pissarreck will be moving out of the village. Her last village board meeting will be May 17.
"Mike Zadel's integrity, dedication and record of service to the village of Mount Prospect is unquestionable. I am confident that the members of the village board will agree that Mike's experience, leadership and deep commitment to the village of Mount Prospect over so many years make him an excellent choice for this role," Hoefert said.
"Mike will need virtually no time to come up to speed, and as a result, the village board will not miss a beat."
Zadel would fill the position through April 2023, with the remaining 24 months of the term to be completed by someone elected to the seat.
A Mount Prospect resident since 1950, Zadel grew up on Pine Street in a home built by his parents.
Zadel, who is a Prospect High School alumnus, served Mount Prospect as a maintenance worker in the Public Works Department and was promoted to forestry foreman in 1976.
Following his resignation in 1984, he went on to serve as superintendent of maintenance for the village of Schaumburg and, then, roadway maintenance manager with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority until his retirement in 2013.
Zadel was first elected as a village trustee in 2001 and served for 20 years, retiring from the board in 2021.
"During his five terms on the village board, Mike Zadel earned a reputation for responsible fiscal leadership, ardent support of economic growth and development, and prudent decision making based on reason, sensibility and objectivity," Hoefert said.
Zadel is active in the community through the Mount Prospect Lions Club. He has served as chair of the Bluesmobile Cruise Nights and co-chair for the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner.
He is a member of the Legacy Committee and is liaison for the development of the Busse Pocket Park.
