Kovach Eye Institute first in Illinois to offer patients new EVO/EVO+ Visian® Implantable Collamer® Lens

In March 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval of the EVO/EVO+ Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO) for the correction of myopia and myopia with astigmatism. Myopia is also known as nearsightedness or the need for distance vision correction.

Kovach Eye Institute is the first ophthalmic practice in Illinois to offer these EVO+ Visian ICL lenses, which were developed by STAAR Surgical, a leading researcher, manufacturer, and marketer of implantable lenses.

"Kovach Eye Institute, with five offices in suburban Chicago, continues to be a leader in advancing technology and ophthalmic care," said Kevin Kovach, M.D. "It's exciting to provide our patients with yet another option for vision correction."

According to STAAR Surgical, an estimated 100 million U.S. adults ages 21 to 45 who have myopia are potential candidates for EVO, a biocompatible implantable lens that corrects distance vision.

"We are thrilled to make EVO available to U.S. surgeons and patients seeking a proven and premium option to glasses, contact lenses or laser vision correction," said Scott D. Barnes, MD, Chief Medical Officer of STAAR Surgical."EVO adds an important tool for the ophthalmic surgeon seeking to help improve a patient's quality of life."

The benefits of the new EVO Visian ICL lenses are:

Additive - Harmony with natural eye. Unlike other procedures, EVO is an additive procedure that does not require removing corneal tissue or removing your natural lens. An EVO lens is similar to adding a lens to a camera, as the EVO lens works with the natural parts of your eye to improve your vision so you can see the world.

Sharp, Clear Vision. Experience what life has to offer every single minute of your day and night without compromising your night vision. EVO is an evolution in visual freedom designed to provide premium refractive outcomes while optimizing patient comfort.

No Dry Eye. Clear and comfortable. EVO sits inside of your eye, eliminating the hassle of having to put in and take out your contact lenses each day.

Removable by Doctor. EVOs are implanted within the posterior chamber of the eye directly behind the iris and in front of the natural crystalline lens. Moreover, the EVO lens is removable by a doctor if ever desired.

"We are excited to be the first in Illinois to offer the new EVO implantable collamer lens as a superior choice for many patients," said George Ludwig, Managing Director of Kovach Eye Institute. "Many patients choose EVO as an alternative to glasses and contact lenses, and they enjoy amazing precision vision. Additionally, for many patients who may have been told they cannot have LASIK, EVO is their best choice."
