Wheaton to roll out bike safety event for kids May 14

Wheaton kids can get a handle on bike safety skills during a free training event next week.

Wheaton police and the city's Bicycle Advisory Commission encourage children age 13 and younger to attend a bicycle safety rodeo from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14, in the Wheaton City Hall parking lot, 303 W. Wesley St.

The event includes giveaways and stations where young bicyclists will learn various safety techniques and maneuvers.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian, bring a working bicycle and wear a helmet. Register for the event by filling out an online waiver posted on the city's website.
