House fire leaves one home uninhabitable, damages neighboring house

No one was injured in a late Monday fire in McHenry that left one home uninhabitable and damaged a neighboring house.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District officials said firefighters were called to the single-story, ranch-style house on the 4200 block of Ponca Street at 11:49 p.m.

The house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The lone resident of the home had escaped before firefighters were on scene.

It took roughly 30 minutes to control the blaze, fire officials said.

A vehicle inside the attached garage was damaged as well, officials said.

Residents of the neighboring house that was damaged were allowed to return to their homes.

Fire officials did not provide a damage estimate.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Firefighters from four neighboring departments assisted.
