Hindu Civilization Exhibition at Whitney Young High School

A poster exhibition on Hindu civilization called "Darshana" was displayed in the Whitney M. Young Magnate High School in Downtown Chicago from April 27th to April 29th 2022.

The prominent American civil rights leader and social worker Whitney M. Young, whose name the school carries, strove for social equality and equitable access to opportunities. The theme of this poster exhibition also aligned with the ideals of harmony and brotherhood. The exhibition strives to be a platform to foster interfaith and create an environment of harmonious coexistence while pursuing Universal Oneness. It also provides an opportunity to deepen one's awareness of Hindu culture, divinity, celebrations and contributions to the World.

In addition to Hinduism, the exhibition also brings awareness to other core Indic faiths such as Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.

The exhibition was set up on the walkway between the school's Arts and Academic buildings and served as a vantage point as this allowed hundreds of students to interestingly glance through the posters while walking by. Some students stopped in their lunch break to understand and read through the content displayed on the posters. Similarly, faculty members stopped by when they had a minute and spent time at posters that held special interest for them. The exhibition was supported by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA, Inc., (HSS) volunteers, who ably answered questions and provided more insight into each poster.

The free exhibition has 24 posters, covering a whole gamut of themes of Hinduism such as Symbols, Divinity, Spiritual Paths, Traditions, Sacred Texts, Festivals, Hindu Arts, Sciences, Global Impact, Fun Facts etc. Each poster also has a QR code on it, which when scanned takes the visitor to a website where they can learn even more on the given topic.

Principal Dr Joyce Kenner stopped by the exhibition and spoke encouraging words that the exhibition was tremendous and is of great value for the students in increasing their knowledge and understanding of Hinduism.

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA, Inc., a 501© (3), a tax-exempt charitable organization initiated the idea of this exhibit and several other like-minded Hindu organizations also partnered in support. This traveling exhibition will be displayed at various locations across the country in the upcoming months.
