Winfield man charged with trying to break into Naperville smoke shop
A Winfield man has been charged with burglarizing a Naperville smoke shop.
In a Facebook post, Naperville police said they suspect that the 18-year-old man they arrested Wednesday was involved in break-ins at other smoke shops in town.
They did not name the man, but DuPage County court records indicate that Branford D. Yurko, of the 0N600 block of Courtney Lane, has been charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage to property.
Police said they were investigating a burglary at a store on Ogden Avenue. An officer, knowing there had been burglaries to smoke shops elsewhere in town, checked other stores. He noticed a suspicious vehicle near a store on 75th Street.
The court records allege that at 2:29 a.m. Wednesday, Yurko tried to break into the Dr. LungZzz Smoke Shop at 2728 W. 75th St. He tried to pry open the door, damaging the door and its lock, authorities said. The charges also allege he had two hammers and two screwdrivers on him.
