Girls soccer: Glenbrook South falls to Prospect in nonconference match
Natalie Bouzas, Jackie Keane and Abby Knott would inspire a remarkable second half comeback for Prospect, who overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat host Glenbrook South in a girls soccer game last Thursday in Glenview at snowy John Davis Stadium.
Knott would score a stunning game-winner in the 76th minute to secure the Knights' 3-2 nonconference triumph, and move their overall record to 3-1-0.
"It really says a lot about this team for us to fight hard, and never give up, even when we went down two goals," said Knott, who elevated high above a crowded Titans (3-4-0) box to drive home a strong header off a wonderful corner from teammate Hannah Mekky.
The Titans, coming off a 1-0 loss to Stevenson earlier in the week, bagged the opener when DePaul-bound Lilly O'Rourke converted her penalty kick attempt after she was fouled just inside the box in the 23rd minute.
The entire first half was a wide open affair, which featured plenty of attacking flair from both clubs and strong play from each keeper, including the Titans' duo of Bella Crist and Lyndsey Mack, who came on for Crist just before the half-hour.
Mack produced a fine stop just before the intermission to stop a sure goal by Lauren Harrell, who was set up by Mekky and Jillian Sawadski.
The visitors were on their collective front foot after the break, but it was the home side who would find the back of the net in the 57th minute when a long, looping effort from 40 yards by Anna Ducrow would give the Titans a two-goal advantage.
Undaunted, the Knights pulled one back 10 minutes later with Bouzas finishing a Mia D'Onofrio corner, before Keane evened the contest at 69 minutes with a 30-yard cracker after the Titans failed to clear the area.
Knott would stun the home side with her header redirected into the back post four minutes from time.
"We played 40 minutes of soccer, Prospect played 80 minutes, and that really was the difference tonight," said a disappointed O'Rourke, whose club will host Vernon Hills today.
