Nicor Gas employees personally raise nearly $6,000 in support of Special Olympics Illinois
This winter, Nicor Gas employees across the state participated in Polar Plunges at four different locations in support of the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. Eighteen employees and their families participated in icy water plunges in Bloomington, Palatine, Oak Brook and Rockford, Illinois.
While last year's in-person event was cancelled due to the pandemic, employees rallied this year to make the Polar Plunge events a success and to personally raise nearly $6,000 in support of more than 23,100 traditional athletes and 13,000 young athletes.
"It's more than raising money, it's about recognizing those that are differently-abled and welcoming them as part of your community," said Bernie Anderson, regional community affairs manager in Bloomington for Nicor Gas. "Polar Plunge is a great opportunity for employees to bring their families out and educate their kids about Special Olympics, what we do for our communities and why it is so important that they volunteer and give back as well."
