Waukegan Church Members Raise Over 6K for Ukraine

Members of Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan raised more than $6000.00 for Ukraine relief in only two weeks last month.

When MaryFran Troha and her husband Gregory Thompson approached Father Jean Beniste with an idea to match $1000.00 in donations from the church members to help Ukraine, they had no idea it would be so successful. Not only did parishioners give enough to match the $1000.00, but the grand total was $6625.00

The funds will be distributed to the Ukraine National Bank War Fund, as will any future donations.

Christ Church, at 410 Grand Avenue in Waukegan, also has a robust Community Meal program each Sunday at 2:00 pm, after its English and Spanish church services. Father Beniste notes "We are all our community, whether here in Lake County or across the world. We must have compassion for our brothers and sisters, no matter where they are."
