A Glimpse Inside the Golden Age of Radio

Long before the invention of the podcast, decades before, there were live radio shows. During what was known as the Golden Age of Radio, families huddled around their high-tech devices (radios), and enjoyed live, wholesome entertainment.

Last week, the residents of Friendship Village senior living community in Schaumburg enjoyed a fun-filled blast to the golden past as they attended a live performance of "Easy Aces: Jury Duty." Eight residents reenacted the single episode of a much-beloved radio series from the 1940s. The show was performed twice to accommodate standing-room-only crowds.

The 45-minute show kept the audience laughing and resulted in the probable enlistment of additional participants on the cast lists for future shows.

"The residents at Friendship Village have so many diverse interests and are always eager to try something new. Their enthusiasm and professionalism came through in their performance of the radio show," said Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of life-long learning and volunteer services.
