Wheaton French Market opening season at temporary spot

Wheaton's French market will open for the season at a temporary site while construction wraps up on a new pavilion slated to host vendors and other events downtown.

In the interim, the open-air market will make the move to Liberty Drive between Cross and Reber streets and on Reber between Liberty and Willow Avenue, in front of the old DuPage County Courthouse.

The market's first day is Saturday, April 9.

The pavilion is expected to be complete later this spring. Then the market will move under the structure along Liberty between Main and Cross Streets, just south of the railroad tracks.

At 28 feet high at its tallest point, the pavilion is one of the last showpieces in a streetscape and infrastructure project that's winding down after 4½ years of construction downtown.

The market offers fresh produce, flowers, specialty foods, jewelry, crafts and baked goods. Its hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 29. For the last few weeks of the season, Nov. 5 through 26, the market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
