Two years and one global pandemic later, Stedman Graham keeping promise to Schaumburg
Stedman Graham - author, educator and entrepreneur - doesn't let an inconvenience like a two-year global pandemic get in the way of a promise.
On Wednesday, May 4, Oprah Winfrey's longtime boyfriend will make good on his winter 2020 commitment to serve as the keynote speaker of Schaumburg's next Volunteer of the Year Awards Luncheon.
That was supposed to be in April 2020. But due to COVID-19, the 2020 awards were given without a ceremony and the 2021 awards were canceled altogether.
The village is now seeking nominations for the adult, youth and organization volunteers that will be recognized at the May 4 luncheon at Chandler's, 401 N. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.
Nominees can represent social, civic, religious, community, school and nonprofit organizations within the village of Schaumburg and Schaumburg Township community. Junior high and high school students are eligible for the youth award.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges. All nominees will receive a certificate of merit, while each of the three winners will receive an award.
Nominations can be made before the April 15 deadline by visiting eventeny.com/events/vendor/?id=3514.
To register for the luncheon by April 24, visit eventeny.com/events/applications/application/?id=837. The luncheon costs $35 per person, but nominees attend free.
Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly will make welcoming remarks at the event, which begins with a cash bar at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will run from noon until approximately 2 p.m.
