Fire leaves Bloomingdale home uninhabitable
No injuries were reported in a blaze at a Bloomingdale home late Tuesday that fire officials believe escaped a fireplace and extended into the attic.
Bloomingdale Fire Protection District firefighters were called to the house on the 200 block of Strathmore Court just before 8 p.m.
Fire Chief Matthew Beyer said the fire was under control within a half-hour of firefighters' arrival.
Firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours checking for hot spots and performing salvage operations.
Beyer said an initial investigation indicates a fire in the split-level home's fireplace escaped into the attic and caused as much as $200,000 in damage.
The house was deemed uninhabitable, and fire officials are still investigating the cause.
