Wood Dale to resume senior/disabled grass-cutting program in April

Wood Dale seniors and disabled residents once again will be able to get a helping hand from the city this summer for grass cutting and light property maintenance.

The City of Wood Dale is working with KSK Landscaping and Handyman in Bensenville to restart a program from 2021 in which qualifying seniors and disabled residents will get their grass cut - and other small outside chores done - at a greatly reduced cost. The program was created in 2021 as part of the city's capital improvement program.

Director of Public Works Alan Lange said 30 people qualified last year and 60 are expected to use it this year.

Services include grass cutting and spring and fall cleanup of leaves, twigs, branches and debris. It will not cover fertilizing, trimming of bushes, trees or other plants, watering or weed-pulling.

The program will be limited based on available funds and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who qualify.

Services will begin the last week of April and continue until November. It will cost residents $12.50 per cut and will occur on a weekly basis.

"I think it's a great initiative by the city council to serve our seniors," Lange said.

Those participating must be homeowners in the city with an income of $65,000 annually or lower, be 65 or older and/or show proof of disability, and have no one else in the household able to cut the lawn.

Those interested in using the service can go to Wood Dale's website to apply.
