Firefighter injured battling apartment blaze in Lisle

One firefighter suffered minor injuries from falling debris while battling a blaze at an apartment complex Sunday in Lisle.

The firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later released.

Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District officials said firefighters were called to 5400 block of Burr Oak Road just before 12:20 p.m. for a report of a fire at an apartment complex.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the two-story, multiunit building.

All occupants of the complex were able to escape on their own before firefighters arrived.

It took nearly an hour to bring the fire under control, fire officials said. Firefighters were on scene until nearly 2 p.m.

Four units in the complex suffered significant damage and were deemed uninhabitable.

No damage estimate was reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
