Lightning strike thrice in 32 seconds, beat Blackhawks
So Lightning never strikes the same place twice, huh?
Don't tell that to the Blackhawks, who watched Tampa Bay score 3 goals in a record-setting 32 seconds at the United Center on Sunday en route to a 6-3 victory.
The spree, which allowed the Lightning to expand their 3-2 lead to 6-2, was the fastest 3-goal explosion ever by a Hawks opponent.
The Hawks had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 thanks to goals by Dylan Strome (12) and Patrick Kane (18), but fell behind 3-2 after two periods when Victor Hedman and Cal Foote beat Marc-Andre Fleury.
Hedman then made it 4-2 at 1:51 of the third period on a long blast that beat Fleury to the glove side; Corey Perry made it 5-2 at 2:04 after Jake McCabe misplayed a puck in the defensive zone; and Mikhail Sergachev completed the run with a long shot from the point.
The crazy thing is that the Hawks actually outplayed the Lightning for large stretches. But long stretches aren't nearly good enough against the two-time defending champs, who are now 37-12-6.
Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 2 phenomenal saves - one on a one-timer by Kirby Dach in which he somehow got his stick on the puck; the other when he lunged to his left and snared what appeared to be a sure goal by Kane.
Alex DeBrincat also scored for the Hawks. It was his 31st goal.
The Hawks (20-29-8) host Anaheim on Tuesday, then play at Boston on Thursday and at Ottawa on Saturday.
