Authorities: Carol Stream woman stole more than $500,000 from business

A Carol Stream woman is facing multiple charges of theft and forgery, accused of stealing more than $500,000 from a Carol Stream company.

Maria Hayden, 48, of the 1000 block of Parkview Circle, was indicted by a grand jury on Feb. 23 and was arrested on March 4.

Hayden is charged with two counts of theft, alleging she stole more than $500,000 between July 8, 2013, and March 30, 2020, from Custom Electrical Systems Inc., according to DuPage court records.

She is charged with one count of financial institution fraud, alleging she forged checks from the company payable to her, three businesses, and another person.

In addition, Hayden is charged with nine counts of forgery, alleging that between Feb. 19, 2020, and March 6, 2020, she forged nine checks made out to her and another person, totaling $89,000. And she is charged with continuing financial crimes enterprise.

All the charges are felonies.

She is being held at the DuPage County jail on $40,000 bail. She would need to post $4,000 to be freed pretrial.

Her next court date is April 18, when she is scheduled to be arraigned.
