NCH Mobile Dental Clinic available for those who qualify

There is an undeniable link between overall health and oral health. Studies show that poor oral health may be linked to heart disease, stroke, preterm childbirth and oral cancer.

A report on oral health by the U.S. Surgeon General documented connections between oral disease and ear and sinus infections, weakened immune systems, diabetes, heart and lung disease, as well as many other serious health conditions. Affordable, regular dental care is important for all ages.

For nearly 20 years, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) has run a Mobile Dental Clinic to provide dental care to community residents who do not have access due to financial barriers. The clinic operates in partnership with Elk Grove, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling townships, who qualify patients for the program.

Since the beginning, the NCH Mobile Dental Clinic has served more than 39,000 patients and has provided more than $10.7 million in oral health care services.

While many dental clinics primarily treat emergencies, NCH's program emphasizes the importance of overall oral health by helping patients develop a habit of getting regular cleanings and exams and establishing a permanent dental home.

The clinic offers a full scope of both preventive and restorative services.

The staff includes an NCH full-time dentist, program manager/hygienist, and dental assistant. In addition, UIC College of Dentistry fourth-year students, volunteers and contract professionals also provide patient care at the clinic.

If you are a resident of these townships and feel you may qualify for the program, call your township directly: Elk Grove Township, (847) 437-0300; Palatine Township, (847) 358-6700; Schaumburg Township, (847) 884-0030; or Wheeling Township, (847) 259-7730.

For children 18 years and younger, Medicaid, and General Assistance clients there is no co-pay. All other adults will be charged a $30 co-pay. Appointments are required.
