Pacers coach says Thompson headed to Bulls once he clears waivers
There was some surprising news out of Indiana on Wednesday that affects the Bulls. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, in postgame comments, announced veteran big man Tristan Thompson had played his final game with Indiana and was headed to the Bulls.
Thompson would need to clear waivers first, but this was a move that seemed conceivable once the NBA trade deadline passed. A coach breaking the story made it unusual. Thompson just moved from Sacramento to Indiana in the trade that sent Domantas Sabonis to the Kings.
Thompson, 30, spent most of his 11 seasons in Cleveland and won a title with LeBron James in 2016. Between the Kings and Pacers this season, he averaged 6 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Asked about the news following the game, Bulls star DeMar DeRozan said Thompson would be a "great addition" for the Bulls.
