Maine East to present 'Mamma Mia!'

Every day after school, 115 Maine East High School students have been rehearsing, building and practicing their music for the musical "Mamma Mia!"

The students are preparing for their first indoor live musical in two years. Last year, they performed outside and had a small cast. This year, they have built a huge set and are ready for a fun and exciting show.

"Mamma Mia!" is a musical set in Greece that tells the story of a woman looking for her father before her wedding. This musical is a romantic comedy that features the music of ABBA.

"It's a show centered around music rather than music centered around a show," said ensemble member Macy Moncal, a junior. "The songs are classics, so you don't need to know 'Mamma Mia!' to know the soundtrack. It is just a show of fun and a good time."

"Mamma Mia!" opens with a matinee show at 4 p.m. on Feb. 17. Additional shows are set for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18, 19, 25 and 26.

Tickets are available online at www.showtix4u.com/event-details/59263 or at the door.

"I think the best part about being in this show is how much fun everyone is having with their friends and sharing each other's talent," said senior Chloe Borto, who plays Sophie.

"Considering this is my first musical at Maine East, I came in with pretty high expectations because the productions here are incredible, and everyone in the cast and crew exceeded every possible expectation that I had. The biggest honor I have is being a part of something as incredible, loving, and special as this show. I will never forget it."

"It feels amazing to be back on stage for a musical after a year off," said junior William Sadler.
