Glenbrook North grad named to Northbrook District 28 school board
Northbrook native and career education professional Dr. Beth Bazer earned the unanimous approval to fill a vacancy on the Northbrook School District 28 board of education.
A Glenbrook North graduate whose two children attend Meadowbrook School in the district, Bazer filled the spot vacated by board member Shweta Jinkala, who moved out of state, a Jan. 27 District 28 release said.
Bazer was among six final candidates interviewed in an executive session by the school board on Jan. 25, the release stated. Bazer's term expires in April 2023, when the seat will be up for election.
She is senior director of program design and strategy with OneGoal, a national organization concentrated on college education equity. She is a former principal, leadership consultant and middle-school math teacher with the Chicago Public Schools.
As a volunteer, Bazer has advocated for the LGBTQIA community in schools, working as a Friend to the Supreme Court in several cases.
Additionally, she helped bring Chinese and Arab language teachers to the United States through the Teachers of Critical Languages Program of the U.S. State Department, the District 28 release stated.
A product of Northbrook School District 27 schools, Bazer earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Illinois-Chicago. After receiving a bachelor's degree in speech and hearing sciences from Indiana University, Bazer gained a master of arts in elementary education from Northwestern.
