Mary Zalinger named Ansel Brainerd Cook's DAR Outstanding Junior

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter (ABC), National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently presented the Outstanding Junior Award to Mary Zalinger. She was recognized at the December chapter meeting and received her pin from the Illinois State Regent, Debra Coe.

A Junior is a DAR member age 18 through 35 years of age. Outstanding Juniors are recognized at the chapter, state and national level. Each year our chapter selects a Junior member to be our Chapter Outstanding Junior. She will also be recognized at the Illinois State Conference.

Mary Zalinger has been a member of our chapter since December 5, 2014, and she is the daughter of our Chapter Treasurer Pam Zalinger.

Mary is one of the wonderful healthcare workers that have been supporting all of us during this pandemic. Mary works at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, a nonprofit rehabilitation hospital located near Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. She is a physical therapist, with a Doctoral of Physical Therapy and she is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist.

She is also the board president of a nonprofit that manages the Kappa Delta Sorority house in Peoria, Illinois. In this capacity she makes maintenance decisions, hires staff and outside food vendors to run the sorority house during the school year.

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, NSDAR was organized by 17 members in September 1977, in Libertyville, Illinois. Our chapter has now grown to include 175 members. The ABC Chapter has volunteered in the towns we work and live in and have amassed over 7000 volunteer hours in 2021.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. These timeless, overarching principles keep the DAR strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world. The DAR has over 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the world.
