Maine East Student Earns National Debate Honors

Haaziya Saiyed, a senior at Maine East, was recently named a National Speech & Debate Association Academic All American. The award recognizes academic rigor, competitive speech and debate success and personal excellence.

Haaziya has participated in debate during all four years of high school.

The award recognizes students who have completed at least five semesters of high school; earned the degree of Superior Distinction in the organization's Honor Society (a total of 750 or more merit points); achieved rigorous criteria for GPA and/or test score requirements; and demonstrated outstanding character and leadership.

Among the more than 140,000 student members of the National Speech & Debate Association, fewer than 1% of those students earn the Academic All American award each year.
