Apply now for Brushes With Cancer program

Twist Out Cancer, a nonprofit organization celebrating its 10th anniversary, has opened applications in the 2022 "Brushes With Cancer" program in the Midwest.

"Brushes With Cancer" is a six-month program that matches "Inspirations" (survivors; "previvors" or people who are at higher risk of cancer; and caregivers) with artists who create a unique piece of artwork that reflects the individual's personal journey with cancer.

The individual who has been touched by cancer shares their "twist on cancer" - stories, feelings and experiences - with the artist, which serves as the inspiration for the art. The program concludes with an art exhibit and celebratory event for the participants, their families, and the community.

Twist Out Cancer is based in Chicago and welcomes participants from all over the country and world. Last year, "Inspirations" and artists connected virtually from eight countries and 27 states.

Applications for "Inspirations" and artists are available at twistoutcancer.org/brushes.

The deadline for submission is Monday, Feb. 28.

Anyone interested in learning more about the "Brushes With Cancer" program can attend a virtual information session at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at twistoutcancer.org/event/brusheswithcancerinfosession/.

Twist Out Cancer provides psychosocial support to "previvors," survivors, and caregivers through creative arts programming, which serves as a mechanism for healing.
