Round Lake-area driver charged in crash that killed Grayslake man
A Round Lake-area man has been charged in a June 19 Wauconda Township crash that killed a Grayslake man.
Shortly before midnight, Matthew C. Evers, 34, exited a ride-share vehicle, walked into oncoming traffic on Route 120 and was struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Joe Paredes, 31, of 24300 block of West Tyler Avenue near Round Lake, the Lake County sheriff's office said in a news release Wednesday.
Evers died the next evening. Toxicology reports showed Evers had a blood-alcohol level that was three times the threshold for intoxication, while Paredes was under the influence of cannabis, the sheriff's office said.
Paredes faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He has a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 23.
