Naperville Park District executive director stepping down

Naperville Park District Executive Director Ray McGury, who's held the position for 13 years, is stepping down effective Feb. 1.

The park district board of commissioners has named Brad Wilson, the current director of recreation and facilities, as the new executive director. Wilson's contract will be presented to the board for approval at its Jan. 20 meeting.

McGury, according to a park district statement, is leaving to "pursue another opportunity." Officials credit him with the expansion of services at the Nike Sports Complex, Fort Hill Activity Center and Knoch Knolls Nature Center. He also played a major role in the remediation of Sportsman's Park, the renovation of Centennial Beach and the development of the 95th Street Community Plaza and Wolf's Crossing Community Park.

Wilson is a 23-year veteran of the park district. As the director of recreation and facilities, he's overseen programming, customer service, aquatics and volunteer divisions.

"The Naperville Park District looks forward to these exciting changes in leadership as both board and staff are dedicated to continuing to serve the community by way of the organization's mission, vision and core values," park district officials said in a statement.
