Gurnee artist shares his works with Streamwood senior living center

Gurnee artist Bob Nonnemacher, who specializes in Native American portraiture, deconstructed landscapes and abstracted geometry in his paintings and drawings, recently presented a "gallery style" art exhibition at Westbrook Senior Living in Streamwood.

Invited by Westbrook Senior Living's Entertainment and Programming Director Corey Kahen, Nonnemacher shared a dozen pieces of framed original art and prints for residents to examine up close and ask questions.

"Our residents really loved this activity - to see fine art created by a professional, nationally renowned artist displayed right here in the community was very special. They got to talk with Bob and ask questions about his techniques, mediums and subject matter. They talked about how he creates his art and why. The interactions were substantive and positive. The smiles were so big!" said Kahen.

The art was displayed on tables spread out around the activities room. Residents enjoyed touring the presentation, walking from table to table at their own pace. The unique setup allowed for residents to have ample space and time to look at art and chat personally with the artist.

"Art is something that can be enjoyed by anyone, of any age, physical ability, or cognitive level. We are grateful to Bob for sharing his work and expertise with us," Kahen said. "We strive to build programming that engages the residents' minds and leads to more, not just a one and done approach. This was certainly no exception, as we plan to continue our artistic journey by visiting the Blue Moon Gallery and have more guest artists and classes that allow us to tap into our creative side."

Nonnemacher enjoyed a thriving 30-year career in publishing as a designer, art coordinator, art buyer, illustrator and project manager working for world-renowned publishing houses. Nonnemacher has been creating art for 40 years, and frequently exhibits his art throughout the Midwest.

He is currently represented by the Blue Moon Gallery in Grayslake. His original works have sold to private and corporate collectors throughout the U.S. He resides in Gurnee.

"Sharing my art with the seniors at Westbrook Senior Living was one of the highlights of the year for me!" said Nonnemacher. "Art has the ability to bring joy and so much positive uplift to others. I could tell that the residents were really enjoying the visuals as well as the interaction. It was a great experience for me, and I'm so happy that seeing my art was such a good experience for all the wonderful people I got to meet."
