Elmhurst Public Library receives five-star rating from Library Journal for fifth year in a row

For the fifth year in a row, Elmhurst Public Library received a five-star rating in a national ranking of Library Journal's annual review of public libraries.

The 2021 index represents a pre-pandemic snapshot, since it is based on data released by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the 2019 fiscal year.

A total of 5,846 U.S. public libraries were rated nationwide.

In Illinois, only nine libraries earned the five-star rating, including Elmhurst Public Library.

"The world is in the midst of change on many fronts, but the library's commitment to top-notch customer service, innovative offerings, and meeting people's needs and expectations carries on," said Mary Beth Harper, director. "Our high marks are a reflection of a community that values and uses their library. It is wonderful to be recognized for our efforts for the fifth year in a row and we thank our community for making us a vital part of Elmhurst."

Library Journal reviews public library data reported to the government - visits, checkouts, program attendance, e-material circulation, public computer use and Wi-Fi sessions per capita - and ranks the best performing libraries within budget categories.

Elmhurst Public Library placed in the top 10 nationwide in the $5 to $9.9 million category, with notably high visits and public internet computer users per capita.
