Maine East Cares Auction Benefits The Ocean Cleanup Project

In an effort to teach our students about community, charity, and gratitude, Maine East High School sponsors ME CARES, (Charitable Action Recognizing and Empowering Support) a club dedicated to researching, publicizing, and supporting an annual charitable cause as a school.

The auction is currently being held online through December 3. Auction items can be seen and bid on at: https://bit.ly/mecares

Recently, the UN Climate Action Summit (UNHCR) addressed the issue of the growing devastating impact climate change caused. Knowing this, the Maine East group decided to raise funds for The Ocean Cleanup project which has designed a natural solution to dispose of the tons of plastic found in our oceans each year. Additionally, the students have decided to give a percentage of our donations to the UNHCR's campaign to support the citizens of Yemen who are experiencing a crucial humanitarian crisis in the face of civil war and the Covid crisis. So far this school year, a dedicated group of 60 student volunteers have been planning a wide variety of fundraising events to raise awareness about the environment particularly plastics in the oceans.
