Donate toys, food for Mount Prospect's holiday meal baskets

The village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department, in collaboration with the Mount Prospect Fire Department, is offering holiday meal baskets and toys this holiday season to Mount Prospect families that meet financial eligibility criteria.

Residents who qualify must register. Contact the Human Services Department at (847) 870-5680 (the village hall, 50 S. Emerson St.) or (847) 506-4930 (Community Connections Center, 1711 W. Algonquin Road) to make an appointment. Registration is limited.

Documents required include:

• Photo ID of self and all adults in the home; children's birth certificates;

• Proof of address;

Eligibility criteria;

• Proof of current SNAP benefits or income below 200% federal poverty limit.

The Human Services Department is accepting food and monetary donations for the program. The items most in need include:

• Canned fruit/fruit cups;

• Canned beef stew, chicken & dumplings, SPAM, etc.;

• Canned meats/tuna;

• Canned ravioli and spaghetti;

• Cookies;

• Crackers;

• Tomato and spaghetti sauces;

• Jam and jelly;

• Instant mashed potatoes;

• Sugar free items.

Items may be dropped off at the Human Services Department at the village hall, 50 S. Emerson St., 2nd floor, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The deadline for accepting donations for the holiday meal basket program is Dec. 15.
