Firefighters rescue two birds from West Chicago house fire
No injuries were reported in a Tuesday afternoon house fire in West Chicago that caused an estimated $150,000 damage.
West Chicago Fire Protection District officials said the blaze was reported just before 2 p.m. on the 400 block of West Stimmel Street.
A resident living there had called 911 to report the split-level single-family home was "filling with smoke."
Firefighters rescued two pet birds, described as parakeets, from inside the home and brought them to safety, officials said.
It took firefighters roughly 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which started in the basement laundry room.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
