Organ Concert Celebrates the Joy of the Season

On Sunday, December 5, St. Mark Lutheran Church will be filled with the sounds of Christmas. Director of Music Tim Spelbring will perform an organ concert starting at 3:30pm. The concert is open to the public and free of charge.

Spelbring will perform many works including Bach, Dupre (a French organ composer) and arrangements of Holiday Favorites. He will provide information on each of the pieces and conclude the concert with a Hymn Sing.

"I'm most excited to perform the Bach piece,"said Spelbring. "It is written for Christmas and is one of his most complex pieces for organ. It is a rare composition of canons in various intervals."

He also looks forward to performing the Dupre piece, his favorite arrangement of "O Come All Ye Faithful."

Spelbring is a practiced and accomplished musician who studied organ at both Yale and Oberlin.

Rev. Christie Webb, pastor at St. Mark, said, "We at St. Mark get to hear Tim's gifted musicianship every Sunday. We are excited to share that gift with the community at this concert."

"We are so delighted to be able to have this concert again," said St. Mark Member Marilyn Gosell. "We hope it will add to the joy of this season."

Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced to ensure all can enjoy this event. The concert will be followed by refreshments.

One St. Mark member snuck into the sanctuary as Tim was practicing and said it really put him in the Christmas Spirit. St. Mark hopes you will join them for this excellent time of music so that you too may experience the spirit and joy of Christmas.

Event held Sunday, December 5 at 3:30 p.m., at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mount Prospect, IL. Please contact the church office at (847) 253-0631 with questions.
