Funeral arrangements set for Naperville firefighter

Funeral arrangements have been set for Naperville firefighter Alexander Gard, who died last week in a single-vehicle car crash in Wisconsin.

A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish at the St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church located at 601 Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village.

According to the Naperville Fire Department, a department walk-through will occur before the service. The Gard family has requested only a limited number of people in the church for the mass.

Gard, 27, worked for the Naperville Fire Department since 2019 out of Station 2. In a statement, Chief Mark Puknaitis praised Gard as an "outstanding firefighter."
