Donald Van Cleave was honored with Proclamations and Plaque for 28 years of service by Palatine Township

Palatine Township commemorated the 28 years of volunteer service of Donald E. Van Cleave at his memorial at the Monday, October 25, 2021 board meeting.

The memory of this beloved volunteer and humble humanitarian has now become an official part of Palatine Townships' history. The meeting was attended by the family and friends of the Van Cleave family, including Mrs. Janet Van Cleave and Aaron and Katy Van Cleave with their children Sadie and Liam.

Supervisor Andy-John G. Kalkounos invited family and friends to speak. Gene Pratt, from the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 585 shared stories of his 25 year friendship with Don. A check in the amount of $200 was also presented for the Food Pantry in Don's memory. Genita Furgat, Secretary of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Jared Worster, Palatine Township Food Pantry Coordinator spoke of their personal experiences with Don's generosity and kindness. Aaron Van Cleave also shared cherished memories of his father's humble philanthropy when he address the audience and the Township board.

Supervisor Andy-John G. Kalkounos read both the Palatine Township proclamation and the Senate proclamation that was presented on behalf of Senator Ann Gillespie. Rep. Tom Morrison, who was unable to attend, sent his regards and will send Proclamation with the Illinois House of Representatives directly to Mrs. Janet Van Cleave.

The presentation was immediately followed with the unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to Donald E. Van Cleave just outside of the Food Pantry. This was a poignant surprise for the family.

Don's big smile, love of community and his generosity was known to all who knew him. He considered everyone he met as his new friend. Palatine Township honors his legacy of compassion and we strive to emulate his example of public service to our community.
