Kids join seniors with dementia in Day of Service in Burr Ridge

A dozen high school students and memory care residents recently made blankets for a local hospital at Harvester Place, 150 S. Frontage Road in Burr Ridge. The students from Hinsdale Central High School and the residents worked together to create the blankets as a part of the school's day of service. The blankets were then donated to Amita Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale.

"Many of our residents have been involved in community service throughout their lives and dementia doesn't diminish their desire to help others," said Danyanique Hughes, life engagement director for Harvester Place. "We appreciate every opportunity to engage with the younger generation. The residents and children always seem to mesh so well as if they've known each other for years. Giving back to the community is an added bonus."
