Aurora service club partners with Geneva hockey team to fight diabetes

The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora and Geneva-based Chicago Steel hockey team will partner to fight diabetes.

Celebrating Cosmopolitan International Diabetes Day, the organizations will host "Make a Goal to Fight Diabetes" Saturday, Nov. 6, at Fox Valley Ice Arena, 1996 S. Kirk Road in Geneva.

After a ceremonial puck drop at 7:05 p.m., the Steel will take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

The public is invited. Parking is free. Rinkside tickets are $25. Call Russ George, Cosmo president, at (630) 205-9065.

Guests for the ceremonial puck drop will be Type 1 diabetic Frankie Bush with his diabetic alert dog Stanley, and Peggy Hasenauer, Aurora Cosmo member and executive director, University of Chicago Medicine-Kovler Diabetes Center.

Called the club that fights diabetes, Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora was founded in 1927.

The club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak St. in North Aurora.
