Donate socks to Roselle Lions Club's annual Soctober drive

For the fifth year in a row, the Roselle Lions Club is sponsoring the "Soctober" sock drive, showing how small acts of kindness can make big differences in the lives of the homeless.

Each night in the U.S., an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. These homeless persons spend a lot of time on their feet. Their shoes may not be in the greatest condition or may not even fit properly so as a result their feet hurt and are not warm.

With the cold days of winter approaching staying warm is extremely difficult. Keeping extremities such as hands and feet warm is very hard.

For the homeless cold or sore feet can make their entire mood suffer. If their mood is poor so will their general attitude and sense of worth. A cozy pair of socks can lift their spirits enough to face the rest of their challenges. Others may take socks for granted. Homeless people covet them.

The Roselle Lions project can keep some feet warmer and help people when they need it the most.

The club needs socks of any size, color or thickness ... warm. colorful, or crazy. Any socks will be accepted.

Socks can be dropped of at the Roselle American Legion, 344 E. Maple Ave. or at the Anthony DeGrado State Farm agency at 11 N. Roselle Road in Roselle until Sunday, Oct. 31.

Socks will be distributed to homeless shelters, veterans organizations and PADS locations.
