Player from Blackhawks Stanley Cup team helps Glenbrook South open hockey season

Glenbrook South Hockey had its season home opener Saturday night with 3 teams playing in back-to-back-to-back games for the first time in program history. Ben Eager, Stanley Cup Champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, was at the Glenview Community Ice Center for the ceremonial puck drop.

Ben Eager works with some of our hockey players. We value his support and leadership in the Glenview community. He continues to teach players of all ages, the proper skills and to love the game of hockey. He owns Jet Hockey Training Arena in Glenview.

In front of a packed house Saturday night, South beat Carmel Catholic 3-2 in OT. The goals were scored by Zack Freimuth, Jimmy Benedetti, and the game winner by Jason Ban. Assists from Will Papalas, Carter Erickson, Jack Mulvey, Jackson Hill, and Brad Southwood helped South bury their goals. The goalies were terrific with Eli Kamins replacing an injured Luke Winger in the second period. Strong defense from Owen Almburg and Mason Dolby was crucial in the victory.

It was another thriller Friday night, as the boys took a tough loss to York, 3-2 in OT. The first goal was scored by Carter Erickson, with assists from Finn Boland and Jackson Hill. Jack Mulvey scored the second goal on a power play.

JV Blue started the regular season strong with 2 victories. They beat Carmel 2-1 in front of the home crowd with goals from Jerry Tubikanec and Pierce Davidson, strong defense by Michael Ahlgrim and Alex Tsoutsias and goalkeeper Charlie Zebell. They beat York 4-2 on Friday night with goals from Nick Ventura, Tommy Stefo, Will Higgins and Pierce Davidson and 2 assists from Patrick Scheffler.

JV White started out strong. Both of our defenseman John Gemignani and Anatole Decroos scored goals from the blue line. Jack Higgins scored the final goal with a great assist from Ben Stevens. We tied Evanston three to three.
