Northbrook Chamber and Village Leaders Connect for Small Business Week

In recognition of National Small Business Week September 13-17, the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce facilitated one-on-one conversations between Northbrook Trustees and a variety of local companies. The goal of the meetings was to strengthen connections between the business community and Village leadership for the exchange of ideas, and raise awareness of the diversity of small businesses that help support Northbrook's local economy.

"Northbrook has a mix of businesses that is unique on the North Shore," notes Chamber President Tensley Garris. "The community includes manufacturing, professional, retail, service, and hospitality businesses, from recent startups to deep-rooted family companies. It was a pleasure to share that diversity with our elected leaders."

Over the course of several days, Trustees visited individual businesses for tours and informal conversations. Village President Kathryn Ciesla spent an afternoon at Northbrook Court meeting with the owners of Akbik Furniture + Design, Silver Corner, Sweet Dreams Handmade Soaps, and Culture in Motion. Trustee Muriel Collison learned about programs at School of Rock Glenview, Joy Ebhomielen toured senior living center Covenant Living, Johannah Hebl visited the headquarters of Premier Beauty Supply, and Robert Israel sampled confections at Toffee Break Desserts.

The Village also approved a proclamation at the September 14 Board meeting in honor of National Small Business Week. The proclamation notes that Northbrook's small businesses "provide vital public revenue, rewarding jobs, and a vibrant environment for residents and visitors. For every $100 spent at a local business, approximately $68 stays in the local economy." In addition, the proclamation acknowledges that local businesses provide vital support for community events, not-for-profit organizations, and others in need.

The Northbrook Chamber of Commerce provides a wide variety of services for the local business community, including networking events, educational programs, marketing support, referrals, and advocacy. For more information, contact the Chamber at 847 498 5555 or visit northbrook chamber.org.
