Suzy's Place sells out golf outing tournament

Suzy's Place, a nonprofit that has served the Chicago area for over five years, held its third golf outing tournament and award ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights. The record number of golfers signed up to participate in the annual event.

"We are thrilled and bless to have sold out of tickets this year for our Suzy golf outing tournament," said Chaudhary Munir Akhter, tournament chair.

Suzy's Place is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to preventing domestic violence, protecting victims and promoting positive change for families in need in Chicago and the suburbs. The program, which was emceed by Nafees Rahman, was attended by government officials, including Secretary of State Jesse White, Consul General of Pakistan Tariq Karim, Glendale Heights Village President Chodri Ma Khokhar, and several others.

The event started with the Jesse White Tumblers and their wonderful acrobatic jump performance.

White was the keynote speaker, recognizing Suzy's Place's excellent work in the community.

Shahida Khan, president and CEO of Suzy's Place, welcomed the audience. In her opening remarks, she said, "We are providing shelter for adults and children, counseling, advocacy, and a 24-hour hotline for people affected by domestic violence, life skills training, and prevention education to women and children who are the victims of domestic violence in Chicagoland."

Suzy's Place provides emergency and transitional housing and immediate, comprehensive shelter services to domestic violence women survivors in the Rogers Park area on Devon Avenue, Chicago. Suzy's Place seeks to increase the supply of affordable housing in Chicagoland for life skills training, and prevention education to women. Suzy's Place presented awards to the golf tournament winner and volunteers for exceptional service to the hard work with the organization and community. Nazeer Chaudry, Anis Ahmed, and Balwinder Singh also got the tournament championship trophy. Ninety golfers participated in the golf tournament.

Well-known businessman Munir Chaudry came to the stage and spoke about the great potential of Suzy's Place. After the program and award ceremony, lunch was served which was catered through a local restaurant. Suzy's Place raised several thousand dollars for new awareness programs.

The Chicago community hopes Suzy's Place will continue to grow and provide more programs and support to those in need, so that vision of living in Chicago and its suburbs free from domestic abuse.
