The Larry A. Pogofsky All-Star Challenge on September 27 Benefits GI Research Foundation
The Larry A. Pogofsky All-Star Challenge typically features a celebrity softball game, home run derby, and kids' baseball clinic with professional baseball (and hockey and football) legends. This year, due to the Pandemic, the event moves to "the greens" at Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood on September 27, 2021. This star-studded event will benefit life altering research at the University of Chicago Medicine Digestive Diseases Center.
On Monday, September 27, golfers will enjoy 18-holes of golf with a celebrity (the list includes Frank Thomas, Chris Chelios, Toni Kukoc, Ryan Cabrera, Fergie Jenkins and more!), grilled lunch and cocktails along the course, a 19th-hole reception with cocktails and heavy appetizers, and more.
The Larry A. Pogofsky All-Star Challenge kicks-off with a VIP Dinner & Pairings Auction on Sunday, September 26, where guests can mingle with celebrities and bid on a star who will join their golf foursome on Monday, September 27. *The event is at capacity, but GIRF is still seeking sponsors and items for the auction.
As a non-profit 501(c)3, GIRF is dedicated to raising funds to support the physician-scientists at the University of Chicago Medicine Digestive Diseases Center in their efforts to provide outstanding care, train future leaders, and perform innovative clinical and laboratory research to treat, cure and prevent digestive diseases. With 1 in 5 Americans suffering from digestive diseases, this is an important event to raise awareness and funding for this amazing cause.
Larry A. Pogofsky was one of the original White Sox investors and respected every athlete that had the privilege to wear a major league uniform. Pogofsky was also passionate about healthcare research thanks to a life changing experience he had at the University of Chicago Digestive Diseases Center. He was a long-standing board member and former president of GIRF.
