Route 53 bridge repairs set to start Sept. 7

Repairs to the bridge that carries southbound Route 53 over Northwest Highway in Palatine, Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows will begin, weather permitting, Tuesday, Sep. 7, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

Southbound Route 53 will be reduced from three to two lanes over the bridge. Northbound traffic will not be affected. The work is expected to be completed in mid-October.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
