Arrest after Schaumburg police recover heroin, cocaine and ecstasy from hotel room

A Charleston, Illinois, man was ordered held on a $100,000 cash bail Thursday on drug and weapons charges after authorities say police recovered cocaine, heroin and ecstasy from his Schaumburg hotel room.

Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort's cash bail order means Aaron Jones must post the entire $100,000 to be released from Cook County jail. If released he must remain on electronic monitoring, Mandeltort ordered.

Schaumburg police were assisting in investigating a report of a missing juvenile from Mattoon who was seen with Jones in a vehicle parked in a Schaumburg motel parking lot on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Police went to the room rented by Jones, 24, and entered, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ruben Herrera. They discovered a firearm on the floor and numerous small, plastic bags containing cocaine, heroin and 390 pills of MDMA, Herrera said.

According to Herrera, Jones told police he intended to sell the drugs at a festival for $20,000.

Jones' criminal background includes a 2018 misdemeanor theft conviction for which he received 24 months probation and served 180 days in jail, Herrera said. Jones is also wanted on an aggravated criminal sexual assault warrant in Coles County, Herrera said.

Jones next appears in court on Sept. 10.
