Hendriks makes adjustment after back-to-back duds vs. Yankees
After getting shelled in back-to-back games against the Yankees last week, Liam Hendriks addressed the problem.
Looking at video after facing New York in Iowa Thursday and again at Guaranteed Rate Field two days later, Hendriks had a much better idea about allowing 6 earned runs on 5 hits - 3 of them home runs - in 1⅓ innings.
"Our coaching staff has been very proactive about that," Hendriks said of reviewing film. "They realize I was signaling, tipping what pitch I was throwing."
Making an "adjustment," Hendriks came back on Monday and earned his 27th save after striking out the side against Oakland in the ninth inning.
"We made that adjustment last outing out there and it was good," Hendriks said. "We rectified that for the most part. It's still going to be a work in progress, but now it's a matter of getting into that second nature habit of making sure I don't do the same thing over and over again. Making sure everything looks exactly the same coming out of the hand."
Burdi claimed:
Zack Burdi, who was designated for assignment by the White Sox Monday, was claimed by the Orioles Wednesday and assigned to Class AAA Norfolk.
A Downers Grove South High School product and the White Sox's first-round draft pick (No. 26 overall) out of Louisville in 2016, Burdi had Tommy John surgery in 2018 and a knee injury the following year.
The 26-year-old relief pitcher appeared in 6 games over four stints with the Sox this season and posted a 6.00 ERA.
Last year, Burdi appeared in 8 games with the White Sox and had an 11.05 ERA.
Grandal update:
Playing in his first rehab game for Class AAA Charlotte Wednesday night, catcher Yasmani Grandal went 3-for-3 with a 432-foot solo home run in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Out since July 6 with a torn left knee tendon, Grandal started his comeback with AA Birmingham and was 4-for-11 with 2 RBI in 4 games.
