Northfield Township recycling program hosts a paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the road district garage, 237 Melvin Drive, Northbrook. The regular recycling program runs 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 29. For details, visit northfieldtownship.com.

Get a team together or test your knowledge as an individual for Trivia Nights at the Pop-Up Patch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 26-Sept. 9, Sept. 23-30, outdoors at Meadow Road and Cherry Lane. Caregiver series

The Savvy Caregiver, a six-week educational series for caregivers of a person with memory loss, runs 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Aug. 26-Sept. 30, at the North Shore Senior Center, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield. Topics include managing daily life, types and progression of dementia, defining your role, taking control, handling difficult behaviors and finding helpful resources. Future of the Fourth Estate

The Torch, Glenbrook North High School's student-run newspaper, entered the National Scholastic Press Association's annual competition and critique service for the 2019-20 school year. Results were delayed as a result of the pandemic, but the NSPA recently notified the Torch that it earned a first-class honor rating with marks of distinction in the areas of "Coverage & Content" and "Presentation." The editor-in-chief for the 2019-20 edition of Torch was Shane Olson and the managing editor was Sophie Sperber. Torch submitted entries for the 2020-21 edition of the paper and expects results later this fall. The editor-in-chief for the 2020-2021 school year was Sarah Boeke and the managing editor was Lauren Dyer.

Hail, Vivaldi

The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, Mina Zikri conducting, will in collaboration with Classical Kids Live! present a family concert performance of Vivaldi's "Ring of Mystery."

Free and open to the public, the concert will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 29 and Village Green Park, 1331 Shermer Road. In case of inclement weather the performance will be moved inside to the theater inside the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave.

Classical Kids Live! is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that enables access to significant venues, artists, organizations and concert productions. It's provided more than 2 million children access to more than a thousand performances.

Reservations are required for the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra's performance of Vivaldi's "Ring of Mystery," though walk-ins will be accommodated. For reservations visit www.northbrooksymphony.or or call (847) 272-0755.

Masks required

Because Northbrook is within an area of "substantial community transmission" for COVID-19 as defined by the CDC, masks will now be required in all village facilities, regardless of vaccination status, according to a village news release. This includes Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Lane, the Police Station, 1401 Landwehr Road, the Public Works Center, 655 Huehl Road, Fire Station 10, 650 Huehl Road, Fire Station 11, 740 Dundee Road, and Fire Station 12, 1840 Shermer Road.
