White Sox put Adam Engel back on IL, DFA Zack Burdi
When he's been in the lineup, Adam Engel has been a productive bat for the White Sox.
Being healthy enough to stay on the field has been the problem, and a nagging hamstring injury has limited the 30-year-old outfielder to 33 games this season.
On Monday, Engel went back on the injury list with left shoulder inflammation.
The White Sox outfielder has also been dealing with a groin issue.
"It's the groin but he also had a shoulder issue that was still bothering him," manager Tony La Russa said. "So the combination was unavailable. The expectation is that 10 days from now, he'll be active and ready to play."
Engel is hitting .248/.339/.505 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI.
The Sox also added two pitchers from Class AAA Charlotte before playing Oakland, selecting Mike Wright's contract and recalling Ryan Burr.
Relief pitcher Matt Foster was optioned back to Charlotte and relief pitcher Zack Burdi was designated for assignment.
A Downers Grove South High School product and the White Sox's first-round draft pick (No. 26 overall) out of Louisville in 2016, Burdi had Tommy John surgery in 2018 and a knee injury the following year.
The 26-year-old righty pitched in 6 games over four stints with the Sox this season and posted a 6.00 ERA.
Last year, Burdi appeared in 8 games with the White Sox and had an 11.05 ERA.
