Report: Cubs will face Reds in Field of Dreams 2
The next Field of Dreams game will feature the Cubs against the other team from the infamous 1919 World Series.
The Cubs will play the Cincinnati Reds in Dyersville, Iowa next season on Aug. 11, according to NBC Sports Chicago and the Des Moines Register.
The "Field of Dreams" movie featured characters from the so-called "Black Sox" team, which had players accused of tanking the 1919 World Series on behalf of gamblers.
The initial game last week between the White Sox and Yankees was a huge success. The setting looked great and the White Sox won a thriller on a Tim Anderson walk-off home run into the corn. The game drew the highest television ratings for a regular season game since 2005.
The original 2022 schedule had the Cubs playing a three-game series in Cincinnati on Aug. 12-14. They are supposed to play a day game against Washington at Wrigley Field on Aug. 10.
The Yankees-White Sox tilt was the first major league game played in Iowa. The Cubs are an appropriate addition since their Triple A team plays in Des Moines.
Maybe having this national showcase will bring some incentive for the Cubs to speed up their rebuild. They suffered their 12th straight loss in Cincinnati on Monday.
